The emblem of our righteous bloodletting.
Event masterminds Alicia Louise Merchant and Catherine McCormick are bringing WRITE CLUB to Toronto. And I’ll be one of the first pugilists of the pen in its very first chapter.
WRITE CLUB Toronto is live lit as blood sport, where writers are pitted against one another in the name of charity. Two writers write on opposing topics, but only one will win! The winner has money donated to the charity of his her choice.
THE FORMAT:
3 rounds of 2 writers with 2 opposing ideas 7 minutes each
THE BOUTS:
Digital vs. Analog
Counterfeit vs. Original
Wild vs. Tame
THE OPPONENTS:
Natalie Walschots vs. Evan Munday
Kirk Heron vs. Ian Belknap
Rob Benvie vs. Jennifer Cowan
The audience picks the winner following readings of the newly written work.
I’ll be taking the position of analog, and facing off against my former DOOM collaborator, Natalie Zina Walschots. She apparently just wrote 7500 words in one day on top of filing two music reviews (in an attempt to intimidate me, clearly), so I’ve got a serious fight ahead of me. But I’m battling for charity, so I’mma do my best. If you’d like to come out and provide emotional support, make amusing signs or act as my cut man, I’d love to see you.
