Scoring The Dead Kid Detective Agency

Ever dream about the musical score for your book? Well, Aaron Chan, a Langara College student, made it so I no longer need to dream. I was astonished and flattered when this came up in my Google Alerts:

My final project for my Children’s Lit English class at Langara College. Using Evan Munday’s fantastic novel, The Dead Kid Detective Agency, I wrote some music to three specific chapters in the book. Since movies have the advantage of a soundtrack to enhance the film, and since readers imagine characters, settings, and actions while reading a novel, I thought having music playing while reading or being read to would also enhance the reading/storytelling experience. (I received an A for this project)

Chan is a musician and a member of the Langara College class that studied my book. (I Skyped into their class one day, and another student made this movie poster for the book.) I contacted him and he was happy to let me post the score, and link to the pieces he wrote for Chapters 7 and 29. You can find out more about Chan’s music on his website.

Enjoy!
